Typically, builders use plywood or oriented strand board (OSB for its acronym in English) for the hoods. These materials are sold in sheets of 4 x 8 foot (10 x 20.3 cm). Plywood or OSB 15/32 materials may be used if the beams are placed 16 inches apart, but materials used half inch (1.7 cm) for beams spaced 24 inches (60.9 cm). Wooden boards labeled as 1 inch (2.5 cm) thick, but commonly brushed to 4.3 inch (1.90 cm) are also used for the roof, which limits the boards 8 inches (20.3 cm) wide or narrower to prevent warping.
